Turkmenistan celebrates World Bicycle Day

In Turkmenistan, the mass healthy lifestyle movement is actively developing through the consistent state policy. The unceasing concern for the well-being of the people and their physical and spiritual health and the upbringing of physically strong, intellectual and broad-minded youth has been regarded in Turkmenistan as the state core objective.

On June 3, 2022, following the good tradition, Turkmenistan observed World Bicycle Day, established by the Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly at the initiative of Hero-Arkadag Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

A mass bicycle race was held to mark World Bicycle Day. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov gave start to the cycling marathon and led the column of cyclists. Following the President, the participants moved along the route running along the avenues of the capital city.

Nowadays, a healthy lifestyle is becoming increasingly popular. President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who actively supports a healthy lifestyle and has declared the health of the nation a key priority of state policy, engages in physical activity and sports, setting an example for his compatriots.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on March 19, 2022, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasised, «Our independent state pays special attention to promoting mass sports and youth policy. In this regard, the work towards engaging various segments of the population in physical activity and sports, developing children’s sports and promoting a healthy lifestyle among young people will continue.»

Sporting events and World Bicycle Day celebrations took place in all the velayats.
